Templars Square planning application approved July 2017

Templars Square has been a thriving community shopping centre at the heart of Cowley for over 50 years and its future success is of great importance to NewRiver and the local community.  There is a clear need to bring this 1960's shopping centre into the present day and also meet the strong demand for new homes in Oxford and add a much needed choice of restaurants and hotels. A combination of rationalisation of the existing car provision, air space opportunity and site assembly have enabled a proposal for wholesale regeneration.

The regeneration project will deliver 226 new apartments, a 71 bed Travelodge and 6,500 sq ft of A3 retail, in the form of 2 new restaurants. The public realm and entrances into the shopping centre will also be greatly improved to compliment the development, along with the refurbishment of 2 multi-storey car parks.

The existing shopping centre will continue to trade throughout the development works onsite.

“We are delighted that Oxford City Council has approved our proposals to rejuvenate the heart of Cowley.

We have been working alongside the council and the local residents over two years, and as a long-term investor in the town, we look forward to introducing new restaurants, homes, a hotel, jobs to the area and revitalising the tired entrances and public realm. We look forward to continuing our partnership with the local communities as we move toward the delivery phase of this exciting step-change for Cowley’s future.”
