Resilient Retail Podcast

EPISODE THREE

In Conversation with… Emma Revie, CEO at The Trussell Trust

The Trussell Trust’s mission is to not exist at all – they are working to create a future without food banks.

But in challenging economic times, food banks have become accepted as a normal part of society - the Trussell Trust’s CEO, Emma Revie, believes this shouldn’t be the case.

At the time of talking, the Trussell Trust has 1,400 food bank centres across the UK and during the 2023 financial year, 3 million emergency food parcels were distributed, 1 million of which went to children.

The levels of need at food banks has never been higher – things have become so heightened that food banks are having to purchase more food than ever before as donations are not keeping up.

As we seek to help raise awareness of the Trussell’s Trust’s important work, our CEO Allan Lockhart caught up with Emma Revie to find out why the Trussell Trust exists and what it needs, as well as to understand national poverty trends, how successful partnerships work, what goes into a single food parcel and much more.

Our Partnership

NewRiver were the Trussell Trust’s first real estate partner and we have worked together for over 5 years, beginning in 2019. During that time we have raised over £500,000 for the Trussell Trust. As well as fundraising, our partnership provides space, time and helps raise awareness.

We work at both a corporate and asset level, including our team volunteering at a food bank monthly, and we leverage our portfolio by providing physical space for food banks and associated storage requirements, as well as digital and promotional space for awareness and fundraising campaigns.
